Static Versus Dynamic URLs

OK. So static and dynamic
URLs are not really a content
issue.

In a way they are. They are
a content issue if you care
about the content found at
your dynamic URLs.

In the past, Google has considered
dynamic URL content not worth
indexing.

This makes sense. Dynamic content
is often fleeting and not worth
indexing because it will not be
there for long.

Sometimes, though, dynamic content
is not fleeting. It is very much
static content that is generated
dynamically.

Zen Cart products are a good example
of this. A Zen Cart product page
can be very much static content even
though it is generated dynamically.

What to do then?

This article seems to be suggesting
it does not matter:

Dynamic URLs Vs. Static URLs

The old way of fixing this problem is
to use mod-rewrite under Apache. This
is one way to approach the problem.

With mod-rewrite, you can take a
dynamic URL and turn it into a static
URL.

This is called URL rewriting.

Using URL rewrting, you can
seamlessly convert from dynamic
to static URLs in such a way that
no one knows or wants to know.

Google accepts this practice gladly.

OK. More about this later.

Content-Based Search Engine Optimization

OK. This is a new blog.

I'm blogging about content-based
search engine optimization.

Is there any other kind? I don't
think so.

Unfortunately, many many people try
to take shortcuts in their SEO efforts.

Not a good idea.

The purpose of this blog is to convince
myself and others that shortcuts are not
a good idea.

Why? Because the search engines are looking
for content. Why not help them?

More later.
